Cape Town troops have worked in Sudan, DRC

South African troops to be deployed in Cape Town have worked as peacekeepers in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

roops from 8 SAI Battalion arrive in Cape Town and commenced with Mission Ready Training in preparation to deploy on the Cape Flats in support ot the SA Police Service in an effort to curb ongoing gang related crime.
The South African Defence Force (SANDF) finished their training in Cape on Monday and are awaiting a deployment letter from the President Cyril Ramaphosa.

 

On Friday, Police Minister Bheki Cele announced troops would be deployed in the city as part of the effort to battle crime in the area.

 

At least 55 people died due to unnatural causes during one weekend earlier this month.

 

SANDF spokesperson Mafi Mgobozi says the troops have been previously in conflict-torn areas like Sudan and DRC.

 

“All the troops are in Cape Town now and when they did their mission readiness, they were here in Cape Town, and their deployment will be here in Cape Town. When they get their deployment, they will be here in Cape Town,” says Mgobozi.
