The Minister of Police Bheki Cele and National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole has launched what they believe to be a practical action plan to address crime at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
Last week, a student was nearly raped at the Soshanguve campus.
Sitole says they will work with everyone on campus to ensure the safety of students.
"It is to formally introduce a campus safety plan, this safety plan will be a practical action plan that will involve lecturers, the students themselves and the police.
"We will all be working together to stamp the authority of state in this particular university."
Sitole says the taverns in the vicinity of campus are proving to be a real problem.
"As we have been moving around here, there are serious environmental factors that are impacting on safety in this particular university.
"Part and parcel of the key deliverables of this plan would be to clear those environmental disasters. The minister has spoken about taverns that are situated here and are not in the accepted proximity.
Cele says they are determined to reduce the crime-levels on campus.
Cele was also asked about the recent incident involving ANC MP Mduduzi Manana. He disputed reports that no action was being taken to hold Manana accountable.
