Cele was speaking at the annual Festive Season Inspection Roadshow in Gauteng on Friday.

Cele said residents needed to report criminals as they live in the communities.

“We are also calling on the community to work with the police and give information to the police, so they’re able to respond.

“These criminals don’t come from rain, they come from your houses, they have mothers and girlfriends and wives, therefore stop making noise about criminals because they reside in your houses.”

Cele said police should not be afraid to hit back at criminals.

“Don’t let the criminals push you around, please go open the Old Testament. Don’t open the new one. The New Testament got a problem saying if I hit you, you give me this. In the Old Testament, it  talks very well you take my tooth, I take yours.

“You keep to the law, but also make sure that you don’t ignore the last portion of Section 205 of the constitution, which says your job is to uphold the law and enforce it.”
