Charges laid against protesting Sterkfontein nurses
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Gauteng Department of Health has laid criminal charges against nurses at the Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.

The charges were laid after the disgruntled staff barricaded access to the hospital on Tuesday morning.
The nurses are accusing management of trying to cover up the fact that one of the staff members contracted Covid-19.
The department’s Kwara Kekana says police were called in to disperse the protestors.
"The hospital management has since opened a case against those involved for locking the gates and denying access to staff to serve patients and damage to property.
"The department can confirm that one staff member at Sterkfontein tested positive for Covid-19 and all 27 close contacts including staff and patients were tested. The results came back negative with the results of three people pending.”
