Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair in the dock for corruption
Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair has appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on charges of corruption.
Spokesperson for the NPA’s Investigating Directorate Sindisiwe Seboka says Nair stands accused of accepting security upgrades worth R200 000 for his home in Silverton, north of Pretoria.
"Nair stands accused of having received gratification in the form of an electric fence, an alarm system, perimeter beams and CCTV system from African Global Operations / Global Technology Systems (formerly known as BOSASA) in September 2016.

"In the charge sheet we allege that he was granted the upgrades for his influence to act in a dishonest or improper manner."
Earlier this year, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola presented a report in Parliament which would lead to Nair’s provisional suspension for misconduct.
Nair is also well-known for presiding over Oscar Pistorius' bail application.
