City of Joburg to increase police visibility
Updated | By Jacaranda FM news
The City of Joburg will increase Metro Police visibility within the city following a recent spate of murders and violence against women.
Most recently, a two months pregnant woman was allegedly raped by 11 men in the inner-city.
The Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says the department will increase the number of police officers to protect the vulnerable.

"The 117 newly trained metro police officers who graduated yesterday, will help increase the total number of officers available.
"These officers are already on the ground in various communities and will soon be joined by 1500 other officers," says Minnaar.
MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun says the department is also working with local policing forums in order to better respond to incidents of crime.

"Our residents, especially women and children, have the right to live in an environment where they are safe, respected and protected.
"We cannot allow for the senseless acts of violence against the women residing in our city to continue. I urge our residents to work closely with JMPD and local policing forums," he says.
