Updated | By Eva Chipa
City Power says electricity has been restored areas that were affected by a fire at the JG Strydom switching substation in Roodepoort.
The lights in the area went out on Tuesday after the fire caused extensive damage to the substation.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the teams worked through the night to restore power to the area.
“At JG substation the teams worked day and night since the fire break on Wednesday to ensure power is restored to affected customers in Allen's Nek, Weltervredenpark, and Randparkrif.”
Mangena says technicians will complete the repair on Friday morning.
“Even though we were working against the rain for two days, we managed to push to ensure we keep to the time of restoration. By this morning over 90% of the affected areas were restored.

“Only Bergkaree distributor is off as its faulty and will be attended to this morning.”
Meanwhile, a fault at the Parkhurst substation left residents in several areas, including Linden, Craighall, Parkview, Greenside, Parktown North, Forrest Town in the dark.
“We isolated feederboard 2B and restored power to some residents via a standby feeder board,” says Mangena.
“Only Craighall is still off due to a fault and we are hoping to have it fixed and restored by midday today.”
