Confirmed Covid-19 cases in SA top 8,200

South Africa has 8232 confirmed Covid-19 cases and a total of 161 fatalities, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Thursday night.
This is an increase of 424 new infections in a 24-hour cycle.
“We are continuing to see a slight increase in the numbers,” said Mkhize.
“For the Eastern Cape we have seen an increase to 929, and for Free State 134 and Gauteng 1804 and KwaZulu-Natal 1204, Limpopo 41, Mpumalanga 59, North West 40, Northern Cape 27 and Western Cape 3994.”

On Thursday the provincial command council, led by Makhura, gave an update on the province's efforts to fight coronavirus. Makhura said the new beds will be added to the 8,301 beds which are already available.
Mkhize said the Western Cape remains an area of great concern.
“We will be visiting the Western Cape to give them support.
“We will be going to look at what additional reinforcement needs to done in the Western Cape. We are concerned and we need to rail in the increases that we are seeing there.”
The Western Cape has also recorded the highest number of deaths, while the Northern Cape, North West and Mpumalanga have not recorded any fatalities.
