KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu says the South African man who tested positive for coronavirus has been in contact with 18 people.
“We have established that there are 18 close contacts to a person who tested positive and all of the 18 have been tested and requested to self-quarantine while we are waiting for the result,” Simelane-Zulu told a media briefing at the Cowan House Preparatory School in Pietermaritzburg on Friday.
At the same time Health Minister Zweli Mkhize revealed that the 38-year-old man did not land in the O.R Tambo International Airport as initially reported.
Mkhize said the man had travelled from Italy through Dubai and landed into King Shaka International Airport outside Durban.
“We want to correct the error that we made yesterday, the patient had come from Italy via Dubai and landed in King Shaka Airport.”
The man from Hilton - that tested positive for the virus - has been taken to a local hospital while his wife and two children are in self-isolation.
Mkhize said the man has been taken to a local hospital and his wife and children have quarantined themselves at home.
