Corrie Pretorius sentenced for Groblersdal teen assault
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Limpopo man who was convicted of assaulting of a 16-year-old boy at a shopping mall in Groblersdal last year has been sentenced to twelve months imprisonment or a R12 000 fine.
The Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court sentenced Corrie Pretorius on Friday following his earlier conviction on a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Half of the sentence was suspended for five years.
Pretorius was arrested after a video surfaced in which he could be seen beating and pointing a gun at a 16-year-old during a dispute over seasoning at a restaurant.
Spokesperson for the NPA in Limpopo Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi says the sentence will send a strong message to would-be offenders.
"The accused has pleaded guilty to the offences, and he is remorseful. The state, through Advocate Billy Mudavhi submitted that the offence is serious, it has the interest of the community and he further prayed for direct imprisonment."
