South African National Parks (SANParks) says a cottage in the Satara rest camp at Kruger National Park (KNP) was completely burnt down on Friday evening.
Lightning is believed to be the cause of the fire following adverse weather conditions.
SANParks spokesperson, Ike Phaala says the guests were not occupying the cottage when the fire engulfed the cottage.
However, "The guest occupying the burnt unit had a chronic condition and the medicine was in the burned unit."

He says the quick response of fire teams resulted in the inferno being brought under control before spreading to other cottages located nearby.
"The insurance company will come in; the forensic team will go and verify that indeed it was lightning that caused it. Then they will do an assessment of what the damage is. We will try to replace is, it's a guest cottage and it's in one of the most popular camps."
