Court postpones Zuma’s private prosecution bid against Ramaphosa

The High Court in Johannesburg has granted former president Jacob Zuma’s legal team a lengthy postponement in the private prosecution matter against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
This after Ramaphosa's lawyers filed answering papers opposing Zuma’s application in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.
Zuma is accusing his successor of being an accessory after the fact in his case against state prosecutor Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan.
He is accusing them of unlawfully leaking his private medical information.
Zuma’s lawyer, Advocate Dali Mpofu, requested that the Ramaphosa matter be delayed until August to allow the appeal processes to be completed.
"Unlike a normal criminal matter where he can withdraw charges and reinstate them if the private prosecutor does not appear on a said date, then the matter is permanently dismissed.
"Therefore, the arrangement that we had with this court to the DJP and other persons is that we will have this. As a result of that, to avoid the back and forth here every month, we have agreed on a longer-than-normal postponement so that hopefully, by then, this appeal might be finalised."
The case has been postponed to 6 August.
