Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed a jump of 43 in the number of coronavirus cases in South Africa – bring the total to 1505.
Mkhize was briefing the media in Cape Town on Friday.
"The total number that has tested positive at this point is 1505 and that indicates 43 new cases that have been recorded today," he said.
"We have two more deaths in KwaZulu-Natal, which one is an 80-year-old male and the other one is an 81-year-old female. Both of them have no record of international travel. We are concerned that this number (of local transmission) is slowly increasing."
Medical staff are still awaiting test results for both the deaths in KwaZulu-Natal.
This means the death toll remains at seven, but will rise to nine if the two cases return positive.
