Covid-19 positivity rate increases further across SA

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says it is concerning that the country has registered a further rise in the Covid-19 positive rate, to 14%.

Mkhize’s comments come as the country is recording an increase in positive Covid-19 cases, sparking fears of a second wave. 

 

“As of today (Monday), the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases is 769 759, with 2 080 new cases identified since the last report,” says Mkhize in the latest report released on Monday evening. 

 A further 65 Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded, with the Eastern Cape still responsible for the biggest increase in fatalities.

The Eastern Cape recorded 26 fatalities, while the Free State has recorded an increase of 19 deaths.

In the North West, 8 more people have succumbed to the virus and in the Western Cape, 7 people died. 

Limpopo has recorded 3 fatalities, while Gauteng has recorded 2 coronavirus related deaths.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths now stand at 20 968.

The country’s total recoveries stand at 711 195 – which relates to a recovery rate of 92.4%.
