DA: Criminal charges laid against Patricia de Lille
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says several criminal charges have been laid against Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille.
The charges relate to alleged improper conduct.
Speaker of the City of Cape Town, Dirk Smith, laid the charges following claims that De Lille actively shielded and defended officials guilty of criminal acts.
The charges stem from a report by law firm Bowmans Gilfillan.
“Independent investigators detail how Patricia de Lille’s conduct systematically broke down good governance in the City of Cape Town,” says the party’s Natasha Mazonne.

The latest developments comes while residents of the Mother City await De Lille’s decision on whether she will give up the mayoral chain following an agreement with the DA.
In terms of the agreement, de Lille is expected to vacate her office on Wednesday.
The DA moved to publish the agreement on Tuesday following reports that de Lille has reneged on the agreement.
