DA selects Randall Williams as Tshwane mayoral candidate
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced its mayoral candidate for the City of Tshwane after Stevens Mokgalapa tendered his resignation as the city’s first citizen.
Randall Williams has been identified as the man to succeed Mokgalapa after serving as the city's MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning.
The party’s provincial chairperson Mike Moriaty says Williams was the subject of a rigorous selection process.
"His experience and his track record makes him eminently suitable for the post.”
Mokgalapa resigned after months of controversy linking the mayor to several scandals, including tender tailoring and an office romance with one of his MMC’s.
His resignation will take effect at the end of February.

Moriaty admits that the party has recently been faced with bad publicity.
"We are mindful of the fact that our reputation has taken a knock.
"We want to rectify that.”
The Tshwane council is expected to sit on February 27 where the party-elected candidates will go head-to-head for the hot seat.
