#DADecides: Coalition governments are necessary, says Steenhuisen
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
Democratic Alliance (DA) parliamentary leader John Steenhuisen says party will continue to sit on various coalition governments should he be elected interim leader this weekend.
Steenhuisen will battle with Gauteng MPL Makashule Gana for the position of interim leader when the party’s federal council meets on Sunday.
The election follows the high-profile resignation of Mmusi Maimane as the leader of the party and a member of parliament last month.
Steenhuisen has served as DA MP since 2011 and as chief whip under the leadership of Mmusi Maimane from 2014 to 2019.
In an interview with Jacaranda FM News, Steenhuisen said he hopes that race will not play a part when members decide on who will lead the party until its congress next year.
