According to the latest data by the Central Energy Fund, 95 Octane petrol is expected to drop by R2.60 per litre, and 93 Octane to drop by R2.45 per litre.

While diesel is set to be reduced by around R2.30 and the price of illuminating paraffin to go down by almost R2.00 per litre.

In August, the price of petrol decreased by R1.32c per litre.

The association's Gavin Kelly says the decrease in the cost of fuel will have a positive effect on transport costs and supply chains.

"Whilst the price of fuel has dropped, the effects into the logistics chain should be felt in the coming quarter and will certainly make life slightly easier for consumers towards the end of the year. South Africans will now pay less for fuel than they did in June 2022.

"This will go a long way to placing downward pressure on inflation as well as the cost of logistics within South Africa, which is one of the key drivers of the items measured in the inflation basket.”
