Durban fire burns into second day
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Firefighters have spent the night battling to keep the massive inferno at a warehouse in Rossburgh, along Durban's South Coast Road, under control.
The fire on South Coast Road began 10am yesterday and raged throughout the day.
Chief Fire Commander at eThekwini Municipality, Enoch Mchunu, says petrol stations around the area had to close because of the highly flammable and explosive chemicals and fertiliser being stored in an undamaged section of the warehouse.
Traffic in the area was gridlocked yesterday as curious motorists slowed down or stopped to catch a glimpse and take photos and videos of the raging fire and the thick black smoke it's been spewing into the sky.
Sections of various freeways, including the M7 and M4 were also eventually closed last night as a safety precaution.
