The official death toll from this week's storms has also risen to seven.

The death toll rose after the bodies of two more victims washed up in Durban's Bayhead area on Thursday.

The department's spokesperson Nonala Ndlovu says they are trying to identify those bodies.

"What we are not sure of is whether the two bodies that were recovered yesterday are part of the six that are missing. That information I am sure we are going to know by the end of today once those bodies have been identified."

Ndlovu says search and rescue teams are on the ground.

"Teams are going to continue with the search today once the electricity has been switched off in the Cato Crest area so that it is safe for the search and rescue teams to deal with water.

"There was cabling that was disturbed, to avoid electrocution. They couldn't continue yesterday because the electricity was live."
