Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, has urged road users in the province not to panic, as Ramaphosa is taking over the e-tolls issue.

Makhura had a meeting with Ramaphosa last week, which he described as productive.

"Premier David Makhura during the State of the Province Address, did speak about the matter where he indicated that he remains concerned about this issue and how the e-tolls impact on the people of Gauteng," says provincial spokesperson Thabo Masebe.

E-tolls has been heavily criticised since its inception.

Now, an amendment to the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act (Aarto) Bill could see motorists lose their licences over the continued defiance to pay for e-tolls.

"It is a process that will be led by the President. So they agreed that there needs to be a process which would look into all the issues around the e-tolls."

It's unclear when Ramaphosa will make the announcement but Masebe says all role players will be involved.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) has criticised the system, dubbing it irrational and unreasonable.
