EC pupil attempts suicide as teachers suspended for sexual misconduct
Updated | By Algoa FM
Three Eastern Cape teachers have been suspended by the provincial Education Department following allegations of sexual misconduct.
And, according to the department’s spokesperson Mali Mtima, one of the pupils “left school and attempted suicide”.
He said psycho-social support was provided and the pupils debriefed last week.
Mtima said the suspension of the teachers followed a preliminary investigation conducted by the district office which confirmed some of these allegations.
"Two teachers were suspended on Friday, and the other on Monday. Both the provincial and district offices are monitoring the situation and providing necessary support to avert any loss of life due to this incident.”
The department has not revealed the number of pupils who were involved. It also did not state whether the matter was reported to police.
