EC schoolgirl in record-breaking swim from Robben Island
Updated | By Algoa FM
An 11-year-old girl from Jeffreys Bay has set a new record by becoming the youngest person to complete the 7.5km swim from Robben Island to Blouberg Beach.
Abriella Bredell looked relaxed as she was thronged on the beach by the media and well-wishers, following her 'record-breaking' swim on Friday.
The little girl from the Eastern Cape said earlier that her dream was to raise R2m for the hospital.
Speaking to the media after coming out of the chilly waters, little Abriella said that she was "feeling good but a bit tired."
The little girl, a learner at Victory Christian School in Jeffreys Bay, had been training for a year for the swim.
Writing a personal message on the BackABuddy website, Abriella said that her "aim is to set the world record for the youngest person to take part in this event."
A HUGE congratulations to Abriella Bredell on completing the Robben Island swim. We are deeply grateful for the support that this accomplishment has raised. We are so proud of you! @RCWMCH pic.twitter.com/LfPJg4YFc4
