EFF call for Zuma to step down after court judgement
The EFF says President Jacob Zuma must resign.
This after the High Court in Pretoria has found the NPA's 2009 decision to drop charges against Zuma was "irrational".
EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says the judgement is an "important contribution to the restoration of the rule of law".
"Not only should Zuma should be charged with immediate effect, he should also step down to allow the process of the NPA to go ahead without interruption and interference.
"Him being president threatens the independence of that institution. We can't have a president who goes between the Union Buildings and a court of law to answer to 783 charges," Ndlozi says.
The EFF says Zuma should not appeal the decision as it's a "waste of taxpayers' money".
The DA applied to have the decision by the then National Prosecuting Authority boss Mokotedi Mpshe to drop 783 corruption charges against Zuma set aside, in the so-called "Spy Tapes" case.
Deputy Judge President Audrey Ledwaba ruled: "Mr Zuma should face the charges as outlined in the indictment."
Ledwaba added that even if the decision made by Mpshe was correct, the decision to drop charges should have been made by a court of law.
