EFF demands axing of Eskom CEO, COO

The EFF wants the heads of Eskom
CEO Andre de Ruyter and COO Jan Oberholzer to roll as the country suffers
through another bout of heavy load shedding.
The embattled power utility implemented stage 6 load shedding at the weekend due to breakdowns at a number of its power stations.
It reduced the blackouts to stage 5 on Tuesday morning.
During a media briefing on Sunday, Eskom CEO André de Ruyter admitted the power utility is facing several challenges.
"If we do not implement load shedding, what is likely to happen is that we will then see the frequency deteriorate to the point where we are unable to operate the grid in a stable fashion and once that happens then of course you have what is known as a total blackout.”
But EFF national spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys says Eskom’s poor performance is placing a massive burden on the country’s economy.
“The incompetence and arrogance of Eskom executives has plunged South Africa into a perpetual and unwarranted darkness that is killing businesses and livelihoods.
“The collapse of Eskom and the failure to prove dependable and consistent energy supply are meant to render the country’s electricity utility redundant and useless.”
