Eight arrested in Mbombela amid petrol price protest

Police in Mpumalanga have arrested eight suspects during an early morning protest in Mbombela over the spike fuel prices.
Major highways including the N4 were blocked by trucks on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala said a group of taxi drivers ordered truck drivers who had parked next to the road overnight to block the road with their vehicles.
"It is not the truck drivers who blocked the road allegation is that the taxi drivers found the truckers sleeping and instructed the drivers to block the road. They then took the keys of the trucks. We have arrested eight suspects."
N4 Toll TRAC spokesperson Solange Soares Nicholson also confirmed that all entry routes into the city from the N4 are still closed.
"Both directions east bound or west bound are being blockaded by the protestors or traffic police monitoring the road. None of our toll plazas have reported a protest near the plaza."
