President Cyril Ramaphosa has reiterated that the announcement for the 2024 elections will be made within 15 days.
This echoes what his spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, told the media ahead of the State of the Nation Address in Cape Town last week.
Ramaphosa answered questions at the Cape Town Press Club on Thursday afternoon where he spoke about the upcoming election, celebrating 30 years of democracy and the progress the country has made.
Opposition parties have been vocal in their call for the president to announce a date as campaigning starts to ramp up ahead of the national and provincial elections.
Ramaphosa says South Africans must wait and see, as the date is yet to be determined.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has already started preparations with two voter registration weekends.

Of these, over 500,000 citizens walked into registration stations on Saturday and by 1 pm on Saturday, another 564,715 citizens registered on Sunday.
The IEC said the Commission recorded 67,200 online registration transactions on Saturday and 34, 293 registrations on Sunday.
The highest number of citizens registered to vote in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
Individuals aged between 30 and 39 years of age were the group with the most registrations.
