It was the first time the court heard from Reeva's family, after she was shot and killed by Oscar Pistorius on Valentine's Day in 2013.

"What she must have gone through in those split seconds. She must have been in so must fear and pain...my injection from my diabetes...I should take the needle and shove it in two, into my stomach and my arms to see if I can feel the same kind of pain, but no," Barry Steenkamp told the court.

Steenkamp said Reeva's death changed his life completely.

"I wouldn't say I've become a recluse, but I can't really mix with people anymore and I sit on that veranda at two o'clock in the morning, which has become a habit and I smoke my cigarettes and I drink my coffee."

Pistorius could be seen holding his head in his hands as he sobbed throughout Steenkamp's testimony.
