Eskom implements stage 6 load shedding
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
Power utility Eskom has announced that it will implement stage 6 load shedding for the first time from Monday at 6pm.
This follows a technical problem at Medupi Power Station impacting additional generation supply.
The utility's spokesperson Dikatso Mothae says the heavy rains have cause coal handling and operational problems at some of the power stations.
A week of persistent heavy rainfall in the province has caused an increased number of unplanned breakdowns at the cash-strapped power utility.
"Stage 6 talks to 6000 megawatts that we are short off on the system, customers are urged to check their load shedding schedule as they will be diffrent to the stage 1-4 schedules," she says.
Mothae explains that stage 6 load shedding means residents will be affected more regularly by rolling blackouts.
