Falling water tank kills Mpumalanga pupil

A grade 6 pupil at the Bankfontein Combined School in Mpumalanga died after a water tank fell on her.
The incident happened on school grounds on Wednesday morning.
Mpumalanga Education spokesperson Jasper Zwane says the details remain sketchy.
“ MEC for Education Bonakele Majuba was very much disturbed after he was informed about this sad incident and has already mandated the Department to institute an investigation into the matter.”
The department is expected to visit the school and the bereaved family on Thursday.
“We’ll be visiting the school tomorrow morning to establish the circumstances that led to the incident and also to pay homage to the fallen learner and to pay our condolences to the bereaved family,” says Zwane.
“We’ll also establish the extent to which the family could be assisted during this hour of bereavement.”

The member of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victims, will continue with his duties despite the charges against him. He was arrested in September and later released on R20 000 bail. His stepson was also implicated.
