Family says goodbye to little Everlate Chauke
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Three-year-old Everlate Chauke, who died after being washed away in the Jukskei River, was laid to rest at the Waterfall Cemetery in Midrand this morning.
Severe rains caused the river to burst its banks destroying several houses last month.
Shardick Chauke climbed into a tree with his daughter in his arms in an effort to escape the rising water.
They fell into the river and she was ripped from his hands by the rushing water.
Everlate's uncle Kissmo Chauke spoke of how he still planned to buy his niece shoes she really wanted.
He supported the family as the small pink coffin was lowered into the ground and a local choir sang the last hymn.
