Former president Nelson Mandela's wife Graca Machel and his daughter Makaziwe Mandela visited him in Pretoria's Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital on Monday.
Machel arrived before 4pm in a black Mercedes-Benz S500, with Makaziwe entering in a red Range Rover, as police officers manning the Park Street entrance opened the boom.
A few well-wishers had arrived at the Celliers Street entrance, which has been transformed into a shrine for the ailing statesman.
Colourful posters, flags and cards have been pasted onto the hospital's security wall.
Mandela was admitted to the hospital on June 8 with a recurring lung infection.
Security remained tight at the facility. Several police officers and security guards were manning the hospital's two entrances.
