Final SABC report tabled in Parliament calls for Muthambi's head

Parliament's ad hoc committee into the SABC board's fitness to hold office has tabled its final report before the National Assembly.
The committee found Communications Minister Faith Muthambi to be incompetent in carrying out her duties and that she interfered in some of the board's decision making processes.
"It recommends to President [Jacob Zuma] to fire the incompetent Minister who is not here today," says EFF MP Fana Mokoena.
Mokoena says while the report fails to place the SABC at the centre of attempts to capture the state, it does recommend criminal action be taken against corrupt individuals within the public broadcaster.
"We sincerely hope the president will set aside his factional and self-enrichment interests and do the right thing, for once in his life," says Mokoena.
The DA's Mike Waters made a similar call.
"The late great George Michael said we've got to have faith. Unfortunately, the DA no longer has faith in Minister Muthambi and she must be fired," says Waters.
The report also recommends appropriate steps against any current or former employees and board members who are found to have been complicit in the wasteful expenditure at the SABC.
The ANC's Makhosi Khoza says the ad hoc committee was meticulous in the execution of its task.
"It is within this context that the ANC is supporting this report, and because the ANC can't resist logic and sense, the ANC's 53rd national congress resolutions in Mangaung clearly states what has to be done about the SABC and yet we were betrayed by those entrusted with the responsibility of leading that institution," says Khoza.
