It wasn't all doom and gloom in the National Assembly during Finance Minister Tito Mboweni’s mini budget speech on Wednesday.

Mboweni spent most of his speech detailing how to save the country’s failing economy but managed to end it on a lighter note.

He wished the Springboks well in Saturday's Rugby World Cup final to loud applause from MPs.

"As I conclude Mr President, without breaching the laws of protocol, may I wish the mighty Springboks all the best this weekend."

The Boks are aiming to win the tournament for a third time when they take on England on the showpiece finale at the International Stadium in Yokohama on Saturday.

Earlier this week the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reached an agreement with SuperSport to broadcast the game.
