Fire breaks out at education office in KZN
Updated | By Portia Cele
Firefighters tackled a blaze at KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education's Umgungundlovu District office in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday morning.
"We haven't been able to establish as to the cause of the fire yet. Suffice to say that we were alerted by the district director this morning," the education department’s Muzi Mahlambi said.
The department said it's too early to speculate as to what could have caused a blaze that engulfed the building.
The blaze broke out in the early hours of this morning.
The department’s Muzi Mahlambi confirmed that a number of documents were kept at the facility.
"Naturally the district office will house documents such as HR documents - varying from different units housed at districts. These could be infrastructure documents, school nutrition documents and salary documents.”
