South Africans are now officially experiencing the first of the autumn cold, with the first snowfall expected from Friday afternoon.
Snow is predicted for the Drakensberg area in KwaZulu-Natal, between South Africa and Lesotho.

"It's what we call an upper air trough affecting the country, bringing a lot of rainfall over the central part, but its bringing a lot of cooler air into the country.
"Especially along the high laying areas it cools it down where it is enough to form some snow in the Drakensberg area," says Maliage.
She adds winter is slowly on the approach.
