Fishing trawler sinks off Cape Point
Updated | By ANA
Fourteen fishermen escaped in life rafts on Tuesday morning after their trawler sank ten nautical miles from Cape Point, apparently after being struck by a container vessel.
“It is believed that the fishing trawler was allegedly struck by a container ship that lead to the ship sinking,” ER24 spokesman Pieter Rossouw said.
He said paramedics and the National Sea Rescue Institute were called to help the crew, who suffered shock and some minor injuries.
One fisherman was taken to hospital for further treatment.
