Five things you need to know about the Pikitup strike

Negotiations between Pikitup management and municipal workers union Samwu workers continued on Tuesday after a month long illegal strike which saw refuse piling up in the streets of Johannesburg.

1. The strike is not officially over, but negotiations are still continuing over salary disputes and the axing of Pikitup Managing Director Amanda Nair.
2. By Tuesday morning, 100% of the Pikitup workforce were expected back at work.
3. The Pikitup strike lasted for almost a month.
4. Joburg residents should have their bins out on original scheduled days to be collected
5. The backlog should be cleared in three weeks' time
