State prosecutor Paul Schutter called forensic pathologist specialist, Dr Thandi Mahuluhulu, to the stand in the Randburg Magistrate’s court on Thursday to explain her findings from the post-mortem.

She was handed a knife and asked whether it was possible that it was the one that killed Habedi.

“Yes it is possible,” Mahuluhulu replied.

Schutter asked what kind of force could have been used, and she answered that the wound was consistent with considerable force used.

Mahuluhulu added that the chest wound was about 10 centimetres deep and confirmed that the knife entered from the left going towards the right.

However, she added: “I can’t confirm the position of the perpetrator.”

She also told the court that there were no other injuries on Habedi’s body.

Habedi’s girlfriend Sindi Manqele stands accused of stabbing him to death at his home in Alexandra in March.

During cross examination her lawyer, Norman Makhubela, asked Mahuluhulu whether it was the knife shown to her that had caused a cut to Habedi’s rib.

“Yes, it was,” Mahuluhulu said.

Makhubela put it to the pathologist that Manqele’s evidence stated that she ran to the door of Habedi’s bedroom while she had the knife in her hand and that he pulled her back and shook her and the wound was caused by her trying to get out of his grip.

“I would accept her version of events with doubt,” Mahuluhulu said.

As she had throughout the week, Manqele arrived at court supported by friends, and covered her face with a scarf to avoid being photographed.

The court has heard testimony from a housemate of Habedi’s that she had told him that she stabbed the musician by accident and helped to perform CPR on him to revive him.
