Four children die in KZN house fire
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Four children have been killed in a house fire in Hillcrest, west of Durban.
It is understood the two boys and two girls, aged one, two, five and seven years, had been left alone in the property on Sunday night when the blaze broke out in a room.
KZN police's Nqobile Gwala says the children's mother came back home to find that the fire had started.
"When she came back, she noticed that the bedroom where the kids were sleeping caught fire. It was only the bedroom that caught fire."
Gwala says an inquest and charges of child neglect are being investigated by Hillcrest police.
The children were found huddled together in the corner of the bedroom. Gwala says assistance was given to the distraught mother.
"The mother was taken to a trauma centre for counselling."
