Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande has welcomed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the death of a Reneilwe Community Learning Centre student in Mamelodi East.
Mabutho Jenamo (18) was stabbed multiple times during a robbery while on his way home from orientation at campus on Tuesday.
The gang fled with Janamo’s cell phone and wallet and robbed his friends of their possessions.
The department's spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says the four suspects are due to appear in court again on Wednesday.
"These four perpetrators have already appeared before the Mamelodi West Court (on Wednesday) and their next appearance is on 25 January.
"Minister Nzimande thanked the community of Mamelodi who responded swiftly by identifying the perpetrators and helping the police to apprehend them."
