This as heavy rains continued to lash the province on Thursday evening.

Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says two people were reported to be missing since Sunday last week and the additional two were reported missing on Thursday.

“We had two that were missing from Sunday last week, that was an old man and a pupil but over and above that because of the heavy rains that took place yesterday (Thursday) two people were also said to have been missing.

“Currently our divers are still on the scene they are still searching if they will find those bodies, but it is very difficult as it is still raining.”

Mohala says there have not been any reports of missing children.

“The pupil was 18 and the others are elders, and I don't have their ages at my disposal but all of them are elder people and there has been no child that has been reported missing so far.

“The pupil was trying to cross the river when he was swept away, the old man was going to check his fishing trap that was set then he was swept by the river, the other ones (two elders) it is due to the heavy rains and we suspect that they might have been trying to cross the river or they might have been swept by the floods because it has been raining heavily.”

Several roads in the Nkomazi area have not been accessible due to the flooding.

“By yesterday afternoon we had the Mananga, Mbuzini and Tonga Roads could not be accessible, one of the bridges that is mostly problematic is the Komati River bridge and that’s where we get some challenges,” added Mohlala.
