A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars for murdering his girlfriend, Free State police said on Monday.
The incident happened in the small farming town of Koffiefontein in the Free State in October.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Zweli Mohobeleli said Stephen Blaar hit his 30-year-old girlfriend repeatedly “with an object on the head, crushing her skull”.
This apparently followed a domestic dispute.
The Koffiefontein Regional Court passed sentence last week.
Detective Constable Patrick Mafatha was assigned to the case.
Mohobeleli praised detective constable Patrick Mafathasaid who had “worked around the clock to gather evidence, trace the suspect and ensure a speedy conclusion of the case”.
