Gauteng education still struggling with placement

Parents applying for placements at schools at the last minute has increased the number on learners without a seat in a classroom to 34 000.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi told the Complimentary Breakfast that the number of unplaced learner have risen to around 34 000, after 6000 new applications were received.
He says parents who did not register their children online for school placement remains his department's biggest challenge.

He says more people migrate to Gauteng schools every year.
"We are opening a new school every month, literally. I have opened three schools this year already. Demand can't be ignored, it is a very important thing, but we need to do it within our financial means," says Lesufi.
