The Commission for Gender Equality has slammed the rape of a 61-year old grandmother and her 21-year old granddaughter in Dobsonville, Soweto.
On Friday, both the grandmother and granddaughter were raped by men who gained entrance into their home.
The rapists sexually assaulted the granddaughter at gunpoint, while the grandmother was raped in another bedroom.
The grandmother later died at Tshepo Temba hospital as a result of the injuries she sustained.

Chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality Tamara Mathebula says perpetrators of the crime must be tracked down.
“The Commission calls upon the South African Police Services (SAPS) to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are found and dealt with, accordingly.
“Women and children cannot be at the mercy of perpetrators of gender-based violence in the streets or their private spaces.’’
Mathebula also believes that the national lockdown should offer “an opportune moment to create a society that is free from gender oppression and inequality.”
