Gold worth millions stolen from DRDGold
Approximately 17 kg of gold estimated to be worth R12 million was stolen during a robbery at the DRDGold ERGO plant in Brakpan.
The robbery took place on Monday night, with a security officer also killed on scene.
Spokesperson for DRDGold James Duncan confirms that an armed gang gained access to the plant.
"The gang came in after 10pm, when employees leaving the plant at the end of the evening shift were held hostage.
"The chief security officer was fatally wounded during an exchange of gun fire," he says.
Duncan says police have made good progress in regards to the investigation.
