The 19-year-old suspect who was arrested for the brutal murder of 18-year-old Gomolemo Legae abandoned his bail application on Wednesday.
The suspect appeared in the Mambatho Magistrates Court facing charges of rape and murder.
It's alleged that the 18-year-old victim was on her way home in Ramosadi village, Mafikeng before she was attacked by the suspect, who doused her with petrol after stabbing her five times.
Police were alerted by the neighbours to the incident when they heard the victim screaming.
North West police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwobane says although the victim was found bleeding by members of the community she managed to identify the suspect.
She confirmed that Legae suffered 3rd-degree burns.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the North West Moipone Noko says the case has been postponed to February for further investigation.
Legae was laid to rest on Wednesday.
