Govt to oppose legal action against new Covid-19 regulations
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Government will oppose the applications challenging the new health regulations following the end to the national state of disaster last month.
It has until the end of Tuesday to respond to the applications brought by lobby group AfriForum and civil society organisation DearSA.
Spokesperson for the Department of Health Foster Mohale says they are ready to file their responding application.
"As the Department of Health, we have received a number of correspondences from a number of organisations opposing the current decision by the minister of health to publicise the limited health regulations meant to contain the spread of Covid-19.”

Under the new draft regulations, the state can force anyone believed to be a carrier of Covid-19 to be tested.
It can also approach the courts if those believed to have contracted the virus refuse medication or isolation.
Government has extended the public participation process by three months, and Mohale says everyone should continue submitting their comments and representations.
