Several provinces have been affected by droughts with AgriSA calling on the government to intervene in droughts that have plagued the Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, Free State, Eastern Cape and Limpopo areas.
Sisulu says R280 million will be redirected to the Sedibeng Water board in their efforts to expand nationwide drought relief.
“We will in line with that provide 5000 water tankers for immediate relief within the seven days and I am informed that the 5000 water tanks will be here by Thursday.
“These 5000 water tanks will be placed in line with what the municipality has decided. There will be for every area a walkable distance, especially for the elderly, to be able to switch on the tap and get their own water,” she adds.
