Green light for Varun Gupta to travel to India

 Nephew to the controversial Gupta brothers, Varun Gupta, will be allowed to travel to India.

The magistrates court in Bloemfontein ruled on Friday that Varun Gupta could go back to India for two weeks for a pilgrimage.

 He is one of the eight people arrested in connection with the Estina Dairy Farm project.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it respects the judge's decision.  

"We respect the court's judgement that was delivered by the magistrates court in Bloemfontein allowing Varun Gupta to travel to India," says spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku.

The NPA says they have also received confirmation from police that Varun's return would not be an issue. 

"In this case the police indicated that they engaged Interpol in respect of his travel and there were no red flags raised by Interpol. 

"Now they then held the court order that he travels on 12 (May) and return on 26 May)."
